Maidstone Grammar School: Reviews

Fantastic experience: Good community, strict and science 2022 lots of homework with the ‘back to flipping basics’. Quality of teaching is good but a few minor problems, good sports facilities and Thomas Gill make the school good.

Fantastic experience: I go here and everyone is very nice and all the people saying it’s bad are the people who didn’t get in.

Fantastic experience: decided to write a review about the £1000 in the maths classroom, can be found by touching the top right brick of the back wall then the bottom left, can only be done whilst the teacher is in the room. A doorway will open and you can claim the prize!

Fantastic experience: MGS is an excellent school offering a first class education. The pastoral support is good too, the facilities like the library, science and sports facilities are second only to the private sector. Staff are hard working, supportive and of a high caliber. I have been extremely pleased with my son’s educational experience. Even in the pandemic they received an excellent level of schooling with Microsoft teams and live streaming lessons. Well done MGS.

Negative experience: If your going to go to a grander school I suggest going to Oakwood because this school is a pile of £:&!

Fantastic experience: Everyone there is pretty nice.A year 7/8 thought I played fortnite so he said "do the floss." and I said no because I play minecraft. I got fistbumped. Pizza is nice. Overall nice school :) Edit : This school is still pretty weird, has mostly good teachers. I don't know why there are so many bad reviews. Quite a bit of homework, if you can't be organised or can't bother to change, this is not the place for you. People are really nice. Easy going school. 3 words to describe it would be roadmen and memes.

Negative experience: Somewhat pretentious School hiding behind its grammar status. As they had to work hard to get into the school pupils are well behaved. Educationaly - Does not seem to have kept its eye on the ball. Sport concentrates only on the Elites. Even though ALL the school fund demanded from ALL parents supports extra curricular sports one can forget sports for ALL. ALL goes to the elite squads of a few pupils. Management allowed/s poor teaching... As in when the RS teacher left, the grades previously predicted as A were downgraded to D/E. Where may one ask was the support and supervision of the teachers concerned. Management should know when good teaching is, or is not, happening. Common practice seems to be to tell parents/students expected grades are high, only towards the end does reality come to play (Examination boards demand it) Remembering that most pupils enter the school with a level that matches or exceeds level 4/5 Actual value added is less than what is achievable with good/exceptional teaching.sexpected by Ofsted. Only the Maths department sets homework to Grammar School standards - and what's more marking and feedback are exemplary. Very lax in other departments. Seems to be over emphasis on legacy issues neglecting most of the contemporary students who achieve less their best.

Positive experience: Really nice place to send your kids. Although very professional - they could do with being a little bit more strict with the children and desciplene them better.

Fantastic experience: An amazing open evening in the great hall, with so many polite and enthusiastic boys showing us around their grand school. The headmaster is a credit to this school, including all of his staff -there is just a family, friendly feel to the school -l took my son who is currently in year 5 and he was impressed -having his brother their already in yr 7 who is still enjoying every day and looking forward to his new challenges.
