International School Aberdeen: Reviews
Fantastic experience: The school is amazing. Visit to see and learn for yourself their approach to education.
Negative experience: If your child isn’t a top academic achiever, I would strongly reconsider enrolling them in this school. As someone who struggled with learning difficulties, I often felt unsupported, especially from middle school onwards. Despite needing extra help, I was frequently overlooked and left behind, which had a lasting impact on my academic confidence. There were also serious issues with how students wellbeing and privacy were handled. I was going through a difficult time at home and was approached by a member of the learning support staff who suggested I begin counselling sessions. I was assured that what I shared would remain confidential. However, shortly after beginning these sessions, my teachers began referencing things I had spoken about privately, making it clear that my trust had been broken. I also experienced inappropriate handling of dress code enforcement. As a middle school student, I was repeatedly dress coded in ways that felt humiliating rather than helpful. On one occasion, I was asked to stand up in front of my entire class and raise my arms so my outfit could be evaluated, a moment that left me feeling exposed and embarrassed. In another instance, a teacher publicly announced my clothing was inappropriate and forced me to wear something from the lost and found for the entire day. During basketball practice, I was singled out by a male staff member for wearing the same shorts as most other girls, something that felt unnecessary and inappropriate. There were also staff members clearly experiencing personal difficulties, which the school seemed to ignore. One teacher would often leave the classroom in tears, which, while understandable on a human level, also indicated a lack of mental health support for staff. Another teacher, who had also taught a family member of mine, consistently treated us unfairly. We were given lower grades despite submitting work of a similar standard to our peers, and both of us were made to feel as though we had no future or potential. To be fair, the school does have good facilities, and the sports department is enthusiastic and encouraging. But in my experience, that’s where the positives end. For a school with such high fees, I expected much more support, both academically and emotionally. Attending this school genuinely set me back and deeply affected my confidence. I wouldn't recommend it for students who need a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Negative experience: Pros: It has a clean facility. Cons: Incredibly soft, getting suspended for fighting back and not suspending the bully. 20 thousand POUNDS a year, absolute waste of money and waste of time. Do not recommend.
Positive experience: Fantastic facility
Fantastic experience: Awesome school with great staff and students, my favourite place to do supply work
Fantastic experience: Amazing school with lots of opportunities.
Fantastic experience: I have seen people thrown out of cars in the parking lot
Fantastic experience: Clean and spacious
Fantastic experience: I have seen people thrown out of cars in the parking lot
Positive experience: Its a nice school but i think its PRIVATE! And some people brag that they dont have to ware uniforms .
Fantastic experience: Excellent School. We've had two children through the school and cant praise it enough. A combination of excellent teachers, small classes and teachers who dedicate time out of lessons to resolving all issues results in above average academic results. A very open atmosphere is encouraged where children mix freely and exclusive cliques are rare.
Fantastic experience: My son goes to swimming lessons here. Great tuition at a decent price. The facilites are superb. Parking a bit tight at peak times
Fantastic experience: This is a beautiful school with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The International Baccalaureate program (or IB) is unique in this corner of Scotland.
Negative experience: The building and grounds of this school are new and of excellent quality. The extra facilities however are used little by the students; the swimming pool for instance is mostly rented out to other schools. This school mostly teaches discipline. The educational program is of average level. Views on education are rather 19th century, where punishment is frequently preferred over positive incentives to learn. There is no scope for attention to the individual student. The schools motto seems to be: "Ask not, what this school can do for you, ask, what you can do for it." If your child is a mediocre student in need of drilling, this is a fine school. If however you child is smarter than average and needs a challenge and stimulating learning environment, you might want to consider a different school.
