Fantastic experience: Martine has been absolutely brilliant in helping my daughter prepare for her French A level. Martine is personable and approachable and makes the lessons fun, relevant and interesting. My daughter has improved her grammar and comprehension but perhaps more importantly her ability and confidence to speak French has really improved. Fantastic experience: I've only had a couple of lessons with Martine so far but I've found her very helpful and encouraging. My main objective for my lessons is to speak, speak, speak...more than to go over grammar which I do with an online app. She has sent me articles to read so we have something to talk about although it has been good simply to converse about my own life and experiences and to listen to Martine's experiences too. As it happens, for my next lesson, I've specifically asked if we could practice, through speaking, two particular things and I'm happy that she's going to send me some exercises to have a look at beforehand. I have high hopes for my progress in speaking French with Martine. Sadly, I've have had to cancel my lessons with Martine due to family difficulties. I hope this is temporary. In the meantime, if you want to be supported learning of French in a professional and encouraging way I really recommend Martine.

Fantastic experience: I started French lessons with Martine three years ago at the beginning of the pandemic and have experienced such a wonderful three years of learning, laughing together and becoming increasingly proficient in French conversations! Not only are the lessons fun and informative but I have felt really encouraged and supported by Martine to become more confident and fluent in my French speaking and comprehension, and Martine's experience and talent for teaching shines through in this sense. She is clearly invested in her pupils' wellbeing and enjoyment of the lessons, as well as connecting with us on a personal level. Although I am based in London, Martine has invited me to come stay with her twice in Exeter over the past few years, for two very lovely weekends in which we have enjoyed French food and culture, and spoken in French which is just one example of how far above and beyond Martine goes as an effective and exceptionally kind French teacher! Thank you Martine for the past three years - words can't really sum up how lovely our lessons have been, and how much progress I feel I have made!

Fantastic experience: I am a regular visiter to France - 3 or 4 times a year, I practice written & listening in between visits but find it takes me a while to get back into French conversation on my return. Before our Summer visit I took a short course of French conversation on zoom with Martine. After the course and on arrival in France I felt immediately at home conversing with neighbours & others I met with confidence & was complimented several times on my speech and accent - I was delighted & heartily recommend her classes

Fantastic experience: Having travelled to France for a number of years I was keen to expand my understanding of the French language. My wife paid for a number of lessons with Martine which I was able to have just before a long holiday in France. It was a basic crash course for me, but Martine was able to help lots with my pronunciation and boosted my confidence in areas I was particularly needing help. I'm now much more confident with the language around areas of shopping, travel and basic conversations. Previously I had tried to learn with Google Translate but I was unsure of its accuracy and now feel there are many issues with Google Translate.

Fantastic experience: She knows exactly what her student needs. Being a short period foreign student of English at Exeter, I had only 7 lessons, but she accepted me and taught me very attentively. Though I am a beginner, I have learned a lot about France and her culture too. She is so cheerful and encouraging that her lesson was always interesting and enjoyable.

Fantastic experience: I have been preparing with Martine for my A-Levels in French for several months, and each lesson was tailored to my specific needs, resulting in a huge improvement in my spoken French and grammar. Her lessons were thoroughly prepared and all my grammatical weaknesses were quickly diagnosed and corrected (with the intuition of a native speaker!), and the clarity of her explanations has really helped me improve. Fantastic experience: My weekly French lessons with Martine have dramatically improved my speaking, comprehension, and writing. Martine has been very patient in explaining the why certain parts of the language work how they do, and has given me a much stronger framework of understanding how everything fits together, which I personally find very helpful. We began with more fundamental grammar, and moved on to more practice conversation. I have also learned lots about France and French culture, and have improved my accent. Fantastic experience: I hadn't done any French since I did O Level but Martine wasn't in the least bit phased by my lack of vocab or inability to remember how to conjugate any verbs. We've done a variety of assignments: listening, reading and comprehension as well as exercises from some good reference books. We go through them in detail on Zoom and also catch up on what's been going on. I was a bit nervous about starting but she made me feel welcome from the outset. I was also a bit worried about whether I'd be able to hear her on Zoom as I'm a bit deaf but she has a very clear voice. Martine's enthusiasm for France and things French also helps, as does her sense of humour. Whatever you're aim is with learning French, I'm confident Martine will be a great help to you and that you'll enjoy it!
