The Oxford School of French

A Legacy of Excellence in French Education

Established in 1987, The Oxford School of French brings nearly four decades of expertise to language learning. Originally the Oxford branch of Alliance Française for 27 years, the school transitioned to independence in 2014 to maintain its high standards and agile teaching methods. This rich heritage ensures that students benefit from well-tested, refined pedagogical approaches that have consistently helped learners achieve top grades and fluency over the years.

Native Expertise and Personalized Methodology

The school’s strength lies in its team of young, native French academics who hold university degrees and extensive training. Tutors are deeply committed to sharing their passion for the language and culture, creating a dynamic and professional atmosphere. Students consistently praise the tutors for their ability to balance academic rigour with engaging, supportive, and personalized lessons. Whether preparing for exams or seeking conversational fluency, the teaching adapts precisely to individual needs and interests.

Small Groups and Intimate Learning Environment

Operating out of a charming house in North Oxford, the school offers an intimate and relaxed setting that feels like a home away from home. Classes are strictly limited to small groups of no more than five students, ensuring maximum participation and individual attention. This structure allows tutors to tailor content effectively, making lessons fun, interactive, and highly productive. Students report rapid progress and increased confidence in speaking, often noting that the small group size makes the learning experience far more beneficial than larger institutions.

Flexible Options for All Ages and Goals

While rooted in a beautiful physical location, the school successfully combines in-person instruction with robust online teaching, making it accessible to learners worldwide. The curriculum caters to a wide demographic, from children preparing for GCSEs and IB programmes to adults seeking professional development, diplomatic conversation, or pure enjoyment. With options for weekly group classes and intensive one-to-one tutoring, students can choose the pace and format that best suits their lifestyle and goals.
