Negative experience: HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE In 2017 I took an IELTS course at this school, and six years later I am still struggling because of the experiences I had during my time there. First of all, the lessons were absolutely ridiculous. The reason I booked an IELTS course was to be able to study abroad. My english was already pretty good, but since the IELTS course is supposed to be a challenging one and we would be studying academic english I thought I would still improve. The classes were however extremely easy. There were students in my class that could barely speak english, and in my two months there I didn’t learn a thing. Furthermore I was staying in the student housing, and I’ve never been so miserable in my entire life. I was living with a bunch of french people (why would you put all these people together?) that refused to speak any other language than French, and it was one of the loneliest times of my life. The school even allowed the students to speak french during school hours and didn’t make any effort to mix the many different nationalities that were there. My time at the Liverpool School of English was absolutely horrible, and years later I am still struggling with the effects it had on me. So for anyone reading this: please do yourself a favor and pick ANY other school! You’ll be glad you did.

Positive experience: Overall the teachers are friendly and the classrooms are okay. The only reason why I'm not giving it five starts is because the course is way too expensive for what it offers you. I'd reccomend trying to go somewhere else and only use this as a backup choice (which is what I did myself).

Fantastic experience: Ci sono stato nel 2009/2010. La scuola era ottima e gli insegnanti superpreparati. E' stata un'esperienza importante e divertente. Il mio inglese è migliorato tantissimo. Quello che ho imparato mi è tornato molto utile nel lavoro. Ero partito quando lavoravo come freelancer, la mattina portavo avanti il lavoro e il pomeriggio seguivo i corsi. Considerando il tempo che ci sono stato, ho pagato poco e ho avuto molto. Sì, se avessi tempo lo rifarei subito.

Fantastic experience: While writing this, my second stay at this school is almost coming to its end. Although I am looking forward to going home, I would also like to stay a bit longer. I especially enjoyed my private tuition lessons with Terry, which, although they were expensive, were worth every Pound. The staff are absolutely competent and always friendly and helpful. Therefore, I am thinking of coming back for a third time.

Negative experience: Questa scuola è stata un gran investimento... in perdita! Purtroppo le mie aspettative, rafforzate ulteriormente da commenti trovati in rete, sono crollate addirittura dopo un paio di settimane. Questa è una scuola dove si trovano molti ragazzi che vogliono provare soprattutto un esperienza all'estero. Parcheggiati dai genitori dopo aver finito le scuole superiori o nel mezzo dell'università tra un anno e l'altro, si trovano a vivere una vera e propria Erasmo. ..e cosa c'è di male? Nulla se la maggior parte dei ragazzi non venisse in massa dalla stessa nazione formando così gruppi tra quelli che parlano italiano, spagnolo, francese, giapponese, arabo e via dicendo. Purtroppo sono poche le persone che prendono seriamente questa scuola, sicuramente spinti da un proprio investimento. Liverpool sarà pure cheaper rispetto le alter città dell'UK, ma tra costi delle lezioni, alloggio (host family, rasidence, flat) cibo, vizi e gite, credete non è poco. La scuola. Ho avuto la bellezza di cambiare 8 professori, e chi più chi meno insegnavano tutti allo stesso modo.. libro alla mano leggeva l'esercizio e tu, in coppia o da solo, svolgevi. Non capivi? Rileggeva. Parlavi col tuo vicino? Come, lo capiva solo lui. Correzione orale? Poca. Homework? A volte li correggevano a volte no. Cosa cambia tra comprare un DVD e la lezione? … Io posso solo parlare di ciò che ho vissuto, ho 29 anni e non avevo bisogno di esperienze ma migliorare il mio inglese, cosa che in parte è avvenuta ma con tanta volontà, indipendenza e tanti scleri. Ho conosciuto persone più vicine alla mia età trovarsi esattamente come me, altre, più giovani, tutte all'unisono nello stesso spirito di festa che ogni sera Liverpool o i “residance” offrono. Sono convinto che queste scuole servano da un certo livello d'inglese in poi, da un B1/B2 in su l'esperienza può essere molto diversa, altrimenti credo sarebbe meglio investire tutto in un insegnante privato, assolutamente madrelingua, questo perchè ci viene insegnata fin da giovani un'errata pronuncia che ci portiamo dietro per sempre, non capendo poi sul posto cose che in realtà conosciamo già ma con un altra fonetica. Con questo vorrei solo dire agli alti di considerare tutti pro e contro prima di investire così tanto, le esperienze sono importanti se fatte con il giusto fine ancora di più.

Fantastic experience: Everyone is super friendly and welcoming. The school building is beautiful and the location is amazing. The lessons are well organised and the social programme is great for making friends, finding new places and practising English.

Fantastic experience: Located in the City center offers well structured courses. I attended general english in the morning and IELTS preparation in the afternoon. Both courses were effective and carried out seriously. The teachers were always polite showing commitment and passion. The school offers also the possibility to use free rooms to do the homework, a study centre and a common room with Wi-Fi. I also found very helpful the facultative lessons (free of charge) and the cultural/social program. Highly recommended to prepare for an IELTS academic exam.
