Simply English Edinburgh

Negative experience: Warning! Stay away from this institute. This place is extremely unprofessional and unsafe. There are no students, no proper teachers, and I was robbed inside the institute — someone entered and stole my backpack which had valuable items. They claimed the place was secure, but there’s no security code on the door like other institutes. They promised I would be compensated, but kept delaying with empty promises: “tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow.” Very shameful. Many of my friends also got robbed and faced even worse problems. On top of that, I was kicked out by the host family because the institute doesn’t pay them. I was also stopped from studying for a long time due to the lack of teachers. This is a very serious issue. Be extremely careful and do NOT deal with this place at all. Avoid it at all costs!

Fantastic experience: The lessons were great, did lots of activities integrated with language use. Teachers were very enthusiastic and fun to be around.

Negative experience: Ésta está siendo mi horrible experiencia con Simply English Edinburgh: A finales de noviembre contraté un curso para mis hijos de 12 y 14 años para la última semana de febrero confiando en la información que me dió Lorraine Weston, que me aseguró que durante la misma semana tenía un grupo de España y otro de Austria con niños de edades similares y con varias clases del mismo nivel que mis hijos. Unos días después de pagar, hablé con ella para cancelarlo y me dijo que no había ningún problema en recibir el reembolso. Incialmente me dijo que la transferencia ya estaba enviada. Al no llegar, volví a contactar con ella y entonces volvió a dar excusas, como que la transferencia la tenía que enviar Abdallah Khalifa (supuesto inversor y representante de la escuela). Contacté con este señor, quien me insistió en que no me preocupara porque era mi dinero y estaba en todo mi derecho para recibirlo y que se iba a encargar de enviarlo, pero siguió el mismo juego que ella,  dando infitos plazos y sin cumplir ninguno. Entre las conversaciones que he mantenido con uno y otro a lo largo de todo este tiempo, me habrán dado unos 20 plazos distintos que jamás han cumplido: unas veces decían que el dinero me llegaría a lo largo del día, luego que en 48h, que a lo largo del fin de semana, que sólo se enviaban transferencias desde una plataforma de pago un día a la semana, que me lo mandaban "asap", que lo mandaban "pronto", en dos semanas, etc, etc. Como vimos que todo era un engaño, esta situación nos causó un estrés y una ansiedad enorme a toda la familia y así se lo hice saber a ambos. Con la Navidad y cumpleaños de mis hijos a pocos días, les rogué que dejaran de mentir y acabaran con esa pesadilla para que mis hijos pudieran disfrutar de esa época como niños que son, sin todas las preocupaciones que nos estaban acarreando, pero tanto Lorraine como Abdallah siguieron en la misma línea. El día después de Navidad, a causa del estrés y ansiedad de la situación, mi marido sufrió un ictus con serias consecuencias, teniendo que ser hospitalizado. Cuando volví a contactar con ellos y les expliqué lo que había pasado, continuaron con la misma frialdad de siempre. Lorraine ha seguido mintiendo sobre nuevos plazos para devolverme el dinero, pero jamás lo ha hecho. A finales de febrero, fui a Edimburgo durante la misma semana en la que mis hijos iban a hacer el curso y, sin sorprenderme lo más mínimo, la escuela estuvo cerrada a cal y canto durante toda la semana. Ni rastro de los otros grupos de niños que ella aseguró que iban a hacer el curso a la vez que mis hijos. La policía intentó contactar con Lorraine, pero supuestamente estaba fuera del país. Y así seguimos, sin rastro del dinero casi 5 meses después de que empezara esta tortura psicológica. Añado comentario a su respuesta: Jamás he puesto una denuncia falsa. La policía tiene todas las conversaciones que mantuve con estas dos personas y cómo decían que estoy en mi derecho de recibir el dinero. Y si hubiera incumplido el contrato, ¿por qué no dijeron desde el primer momento que no devolverían el dinero en lugar de hacer tantísimo daño emocional con todas estas falsas promesas y plazos incumplidos? Por cierto, incluso si hubiéramos seguido adelante y mis hijos hubieran ido a hacer el curso, la escuela estuvo cerrada toda esa semana y ni rastro de los alumnos que dijo que tendría en las mismas fechas. Adjunto la información que aparecía en internet sobre la escuela durante toda la semana. A ver si esta promesa que hace públicamente de devolverme el dinero es verdad de una vez por todas, aunque dudo que así lo sea porque ya hizo la misma promesa a la propia policía y sigue sin devolverlo. Si eso ocurre, volveré a editar mi reseña para confirmarlo. Mientras que no lo haga, sabrá todo el mundo que sigue con su juego de mentiras.

Positive experience: Teachers were both awesome. Even though the learning approach could be improved in some cases.

He estado estudiando aqui durante 6 meses, mi ingles que era mi principal razon para venir aqui, puedo decir que a cambiado por completo, ahora puedo hablarlo bien, sin miedo y verguenza. Fantastic experience: After meeting many teachers, I finally found the best English teacher! Lorraine has a lot of experience and knows how to adapt perfectly to the level and specific needs of her students (I say this because I’ve taken both individual and small group classes). The lessons are enjoyable, and although it may sound cliché, you have fun while learning :) Plus, she runs a school where she and her colleagues offer intensive courses for groups with extra activities like city tours! Without a doubt, Simply English is the best option!

Negative experience: So,where do I start.... I was in this school for not long but I didn't improve my English,at all,not organized lessons like my previous English school in Edinburgh . unfortunately was fully booked so I had to change for Simply English Don't throw out your money here!

Es muy familiar; en ella te sientes como en casa, con comodidades de todo tipo: muchos libros y juegos, frigorífico, microondas, kettles, muchos sofás... Los profesores son muy buenos: aprendimos mucho de manera amena; llevan a cabo muchas actividades en la escuela y fuera de ella muy interesantes, así como excursiones de día entero a los maravillosos paisajes que tiene Escocia...Los pequeños contratiempos que surgieron fueron solucionados con la ayuda de personas tan encantadoras como Raquel o Mary Jo, y nos compensaron por ellos. Muchas gracias, Lorraine, George, John, Shantti, Kathy...por hacer que estas tres semanas hayan sido inolvidables para mi hija y para mí, así como pará todo el grupo.

Negative experience: I joined a 1-1 teaching with Norma. We got on very well. She was late because of the traffic coming from her side of town, which I understand. Now it’s been a handful of times she’s been very late. I Also got promised the next session to be 15 minutes earlier to add ‘some’ of the extra minutes that were missed. Now she is late once again but that’s not including the time that she owes me. Never learnt one thing out of the lessons we had together. What I got out of this experience was excuses and not keeping her word in many aspects for example helping me with something small for my business which she offered to do. I am about to launch my business and on top of that I work full time in the restaurant trade so I don’t have a lot of spare time. I am very disappointed because I have wasted my time and money.

I started taking weekly online lessons with Lorraine and I immediately realized how amazing this school was. Fantastic experience: Tough to summarise a friendship, in just a few words… I arrived at Simply English Edinburgh in January 2020. I didn’t know anyone. Benny and Lorraine immediately became my family.. they provided me with great accommodation and made sure I had everything I needed. Classes are taught by highly qualified teachers and composed of a small number of people which makes the learning process and the possibility to make friends much easier. I met so many amazing people and made real friends at school. So much so that my plan was to stay for a month, but I actually ended up staying for almost 2 years!! I’ve spent a fantastic time in Edinburgh and I can easily say that Simply English is much more than just an English school, it’s really going to be your family in Edinburgh!!

Fantastic experience: I took private lessons with Lorraine during a whole year to improve my English and get a C2 level. I can say that Lorraine is a great teacher who caters to your needs and adapts the classes to work on the skills you want to focus on more. Fantastic experience: Hi! My name is Leonardo Tonioni, I am an Italian clinical psychologist and systemic family psychotherapist. I met Lorraine in the first part of 2015 in a private school of English in Edinburgh (where I used to live and work) and she helped me and other students to prepare the First Certificate of English. I was successful! Since November 2015 I had private lessons in person in order to prepare the IELTS Academic and the Advanced. I succeeded in taking them in February and March 2016! Since I left Scotland in April 2016 I have always been in touch with her. In fact at the beginning of 2022 I asked her if we could have online lessons because I had to take the IELTS General Training for UKVI in order to make an application for a Skilled Worker Visa to work in the UK. We used to have an online class via Zoom every thursday afternoon and week by week we prepared the exam that I took last 11th April in Rome. I was successful! So why should I suggest choosing Lorraine as a teacher? To me there are three core reasons: first of all Lorraine is able to put yourself at ease, I mean she is nice and kind, she never judges you but she helps you step by step to strengthen your strong points and improve your weaknesses; secondly she is really competent, I mean she knows the diverse types of exams very well, so she is deeply meticulous and forward-looking in helping you to prepare them; last but not least she is a decent person, honest and generous, so you will be lucky to meet her on your life path.

Meeting Lorraine was one of the best things of my 2020, not only because of her incredible lessons but also because she is so close, flexible, attentive….She is one of those people who brings you only positive things, she always helps me in any way she can. Además de academia de inglés, también es una comunidad muy "friendly", se realizan muchas actividades fuera de las clases. Fantastic experience: I have no words to describe how they are. My experience has been most rewarding both for the treatment received and for the confidence I got when it comes to reaching my goals. No exception about the staff but private lesons with Lorraine are successful a hundred per cent. Fantastic experience: I've been in the school for five months getting general english classes with Jack one of the teachers in the school and after all these months, i want to praise all the school staff for the stunning work that they are doing every day especially Jack and Lorraine with whom i shared most of the time there. If i had to highlight something of the school, i would say the way that they teach, the great atmosphere that they have made it and overcoat aside from have and show the teacher status they are people that you can tell them everything and help you with your stay in Edinburgh.

Durante los meses que estuve asistiendo a sus clases, se adaptaron a mis horarios y mis necesidades sin obligarme a reservar clases o largos periodos de tiempo. Fantastic experience: This school is actually amazing. When I arrived in Edinburgh all the other schools I visited were really complicated and asked me to pay a lot of money in the beginning. At Simply English they were really helpful and said I can pay each week and be flexible with me. First I had no English only the basic, now I speak quite good and use it all the day at work. I actually was in classes with all teachers in the academy all of them teach in differnnt ways which for me was really good so never it was boring or repititive. Fantastic experience: I think Simply English is really an excellent English school in Edinburgh. I have been there for about seven months only in order to prepare the CAE exam. This exam requires a lot of personal work and self-motivation, but I know I couldnt have passed it if I hadnt been trained by the teachers from Simply English who are simply (aha) excellent at their job. Education there is what it is supposed to be (in my opinion) : human, warm, focused on the particularity of every student. The humanity and true kindness of the staff hit me when I met them and this is what decided me to join this school. I think they created more than a school but a community in Edinburgh. Besides the educational level, the people there really helped me improving my self-confidence towards my speaking English. It was always a familiar and securing place to go to (and the unusual building helps triggerring this feeling aha). I could go on and on because this place is really typical, but the most important thing to say is that this is the right place to go to for people who are self-motivated, want to learn or improve their English without being pressured or judged, to have fun while learning this beautiful language, and to get a strong training to pass a very serious exam! Fantastic experience: I have never been able to enjoy English untill I got Simply English. Thanks to the amazing team of teachers I've not only improved my speaking and listening but also been able to enjoy my two passions in a foreign country: reading and writing. It is a small school with no more than 6 students per class which in my opinion is perfect if what you really want is to learn English.
