Fantastic experience: We thoroughly enjoy hosting international students. In the time they spend with us we see them enjoy conversations, become more fluent and grow in confidence with their language. We are very fortunate to meet students from many different countries, from all walks of life, and with different life experiences. Our house becomes a melting pot of unique and invaluable experiences. As hosts overtime we have built an excellent relationship with International House and really feel that we know the colleagues that work there. The communication and support is great and this supports the students in having a brilliant experience.

Fantastic experience: I've spend two weeks in IHB and before coming i have no idea of where i put my feet. For my greater pleasure, i've felt on welcoming team and implicated teachers whom don't miss humour. IHB propose also activities independent of the institute and many advices to visit and discover Bristol and all around. I have to say that i'am not on any social media and spending some time at IHB was a wonderful opportunity for me to meet people from all around the world. Now i can say that my english is better than before and with no hesitation, i recommend to any open mind person to leave an unforgettable experience. A last thing: Bristol is living and cultural town. There is always some thing to do night and day where there is no chance to bore. Thanks to the team

Positive experience: I recently dropped my friend off at International House and had a great experience in the area . There's a pizza shop and cafe Nero nearby. The best part? You can park on the roadside with pay and display parking, and the parking ticket checker we met was super friendly and helpful . Plus, parking's free for the first 30 minutes, so be sure to grab a ticket from the machine! I then headed to Bath, which took around 40-50 minutes from this spot - definitely a convenient location if you're making a trip out there.

Fantastic experience: I spent two months at International House Bristol, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I attended an IELTS Academic preparation course, and thanks to the constant support, professionalism, and encouragement of the teachers, I was able to reach my goal in a very short time. I already had high expectations, but IH Bristol exceeded them in every possible way. Learning English had never been so enjoyable: the welcoming atmosphere and the engaging teaching approach made me feel comfortable from day one and allowed me to significantly improve my English skills throughout my stay. The social programme was another incredible highlight. It gave me the opportunity to make friends from all over the world, and I truly believe this is one of the school’s greatest strengths. Fantastic experience: I really had the best time at International House Bristol. When I arrived, I immediately felt very welcomed, and the atmosphere at the school was so warm and nice. I met some amazing people, and the teachers were not only kind but also extremely helpful. I learned a lot. Even though I was there for only two weeks, I truly feel that I improved my English significantly. I did a two-week course to prepare for the Cambridge C1 exam, and that was also extremely beneficial. Not only did I gain valuable knowledge, but the experience also broadened my horizons through the people I met and the environment I was in. Overall, the course supported me in exactly the way I needed, and I would totally recommend going there.

Fantastic experience: I took a CAE course and was very well prepared for the exam. The school is centrally located and offers a pleasant learning environment. Friendly and experienced teachers with different methods provide varied lessons. The activities after school were a lot of fun and provided the opportunities to get to know the other students.

Fantastic experience: I recently finished my CELTA course at IH Bristol, and strongly recommend the course. The tutors, Charlie and Carole, are very experienced, knowledgeable and hardworking. I learnt a huge amount in a very short time, and really enjoyed teaching our lovely groups of volunteer students. The course is very intensive (wherever you do it), so you need to be prepared to attend all day and work in the evenings and at weekends for the duration of the course, but it's worth it. I'm really pleased to have done the CELTA course in person, and find it hard to imagine doing it online. Thank you International House Bristol.

Fantastic experience: I completed my CELTA course at IH Bristol and had a truly rewarding and intensive learning experience. The course provides six hours of assessed teaching practice, working with students from diverse cultural and language backgrounds. This hands-on experience was invaluable. I particularly appreciated the collaborative planning with fellow trainees, as well as the opportunities for peer observation and shared evaluation and feedback - all of which created a reflective and supportive learning environment. In addition to teaching practice, we were also given the chance to observe experienced teachers in action, which offered great insight into effective classroom techniques. The course I took was thoughtfully scheduled into two two-week sections, making it especially convenient for university students who need to work around term times. Fantastic experience: I joined a CELTA course in ihbristol about two months ago, and I strongly recommend the experience here! Both the input and teaching practice sessions are inspiring. Charlie and Nick are knowledgeable and experienced tutors. Students are from all over the world. A lot of varieties are included in the classroom. Useful reference books are provided, and you can have access to them easily. Even though the course is a bit intensive, I feel I’ve learned a lot. Worth trying if you’re aiming for improving your teaching skills or starting a career in this field.

Fantastic experience: I am a student of IHB and have finished 12 weeks course. During the days in Bristol I found the teachers were so kind and skilled in teaching adults. Also the classmates are world wide, we have built good relationships. Anyway it is a good experience of 2025.

Fantastic experience: I did a CELTA course here recently and have only good things to say. Charlie and Carole, the course leaders, were both excellent teachers and made a real effort to help. I enjoyed the teaching practice and found it useful; it's an intensive course, but I think it's a much better option than an online course with no teaching practice. My coursemates and students were all friendly and I very much enjoyed my time here. I'd recommend IH Bristol for anybody thinking of getting into TEFL; or, indeed, anyone wanting to learn English.

Fantastic experience: I’ve recently completed the Celta course at IH Bristol and had a wonderful experience. Carole and Charlie, my tutors, were brilliant teachers and really supportive. They helped to make the experience run as smoothly as possible and were always there to answer any questions or queries I might have had. The school had a really warm and friendly feel to it and I miss being there!! All the other teachers and students were really friendly and it was nice to get to know people in the student room during breaks. Will be an experience I never forget!

Fantastic experience: The best experience in my life! After spending five months at this school, I have to say goodbye to the wonderful team and teachers who work there. The friendly atmosphere and the competent teachers really helped me to improve my English skills. I also had the chance to take a ten-weeks Cambridge Exam Preparation course to prepare for the First Cambridge exam, which I successfully passed. Thank you, Joanna! In addition, the school proposed a variety of activities, which were a great way to learn more about Bristol and the other students. I met people from almost twenty different countries, and some of them became really close friends - I will miss them dearly. The school provides two different types of accommodation: you can either live with a host family or stay in a residence with your own room, private bathroom and a shared kitchen with your roommates. I chose the second option which was perfect for me. The first option is also great, especially if you want to immerse yourself in English culture and customs more deeply. Don't hesitate if you have the opportunity to study abroad to learn English. IH Bristol is by far the best option, and I'm incredibly grateful for all their support and work. Thank you!

Negative experience: About red warning weather condition, which means life threatening situation. I understand that you mentioned informing the OET center about potential delays on the road, but this is not just a road delay. This is an official government warning issued yesterday due to extremely dangerous weather conditions. It’s not just a simple delay — both major routes connecting Wales and England were completely closed. To contact the center and try to understand the situation just an hour or 45 minutes before the registration starts is, in my opinion, completely unprofessional. Since I don’t know which center you needed to contact, considering that the central OET office is located in Australia, it seems unreasonable to expect the team there to monitor the situation in every single center around the world. It was your responsibility to ensure the situation for today and the exam itself was managed appropriately. Other centers reacted appropriately, as I know from my colleagues who were also supposed to take the exam today. The Welsh centers contacted their authorities yesterday to assess the situation - and exams were canceled for today. This, in my opinion, demonstrates a complete disregard for people — both those who need to travel to the center and your own staff. It also unnecessarily put everyone at risk in such a dangerous situation. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience at IH Bristol! I spent three months here, and my English improved significantly. Thanks to the incredible teachers—Patrick, Saskia, Joanna, Joe, and Charlie—and their guidance, I was able to level up my IELTS score from 4 to 6.5 in a very short amount of time. This achievement made it possible for me to join university in the UK, and I’m so grateful for their support. Fantastic experience: We have been hosting IH Bristol students for over 18 years and have enjoyed meeting people from all around the world. We have met many wonderful people and have developed some life long friendships and visited guests in their own countries. The school has a extensive social programme which provides a wide range of extra-curricular activities for the students. The students are always well motivated and have plenty of opportunities to make friends while they explore Bristol and other regions within the UK.

Fantastic experience: I spent five months at IH Bristol last year and had a wonderful time there. The staff is really kind and helpful, so are the other students. I could improve my Level of English from B2 to C1 (I passed the C1-Cambridge exam.) and gained more confidence in speaking English. There were never more than twelve people in one class. Especially in the low season we were less. Once we were just three students. Also there is a social program with about three activities each week which is fun. I stayed with a hostfamily the whole time which was great. Just the text I'd got about my hostfamily before I arrived was three years old and due to that there family-circumstances were a bit different, nevertheless I enjoyed staying with them. I had great time at IH Bristol and can recommend this school.

It does not feel like an usual school, because you get really close to everybody and it felt like a second home. I've spent 5 Months there and it was just amazing. I had the chance to met so many people form all around the world, and built really good friendships with them. When I arrived I felt welcomed and comfortable immediately. Almost every day the school organized a social activity Event for all students, and those were always fun. Because of the variety of the people there I've also learnt some nice catch phrases in different languages. If I had the chance to do it again, I would choose IH Bristol again.

Fantastic experience: International house Bristol is a lovely school with awesome teachers and students. The time we spent there really met our expectations. We had the chance to meet people from all around the world and have interesting conversations with them. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed and felt comfortable immediately. Every day the school organized a social activity Event for all the students. This gave us for example the opportunity to visit Cardiff for a day. The teachers were flexible about the content of the lessons and always took our wishes into consideration. On the whole we were really pleased about our stay at International house Bristol and were sad that we already had to leave after two weeks.

Negative experience: They have no idea how to treat people ! Receptionists should be trained for more customer service !

Fantastic experience: Throughout the lockdown International House have been great. Special shout-out to Katerina who teaches Greek. Felt very looked after and always had help when needed. The lessons are made fun and informative. Structured in terms the lessons fit well and work around every day life. Would recommend :)

Fantastic experience: I did the OET Preparation Course at IH Bristol and I highly recommend it. The teachers were very friendly and supportive and gave me very useful tips for correctly answer each part of the exam. On the last day of the course, I did a mock test which was graded using the official OET Marking Criteria and helped a lot to improve my weakest parts in order to be successful in the official exam.

Negative experience: Worst experience of OET exam ever. My wife had her exam there and found that there was no speaker in the room she supposed to have the exam in and the speaker was in the next room which she supposed to hear from. This is against all the exam rules and conditions they should provide. Finally my wife passed every section except the listening as she did not hear well and has to go through all the stress and pay for another exam which is not fair. Please do not book any exam with them. They do not care about your effort and money and can waste it in a monent without feeling guilty.

Fantastic experience: I am in my fourth year of studying Spanish at International House, where I started as a complete beginner. The lessons are interactive, varied and of a high standard.

Fantastic experience: I study Mandarin and German here and come from a teacher background so know a little from the other side of the classroom floor. International House has the best reputation in the field I would say, and the Bristol branch upholds this well. I can say that the teachers here provide excellent, professional, structured lessons in a friendly environment that is conducive to learning with plenty of opportunity for speaking. The textbook materials are current and engaging(no badly photocopied handouts). All the admin staff I have met have been friendly and efficient. Class sizes are just right and not too large that your individual needs are lost in the crowd. I know others who have tried to save money and studied foreign languages elsewhere and got what they paid for. I'm happy with my decision and wouldn't study anywhere else.

Fantastic experience: I did beginner's Arabic and beginner's Japanese here. I thoroughly enjoyed both courses - the teaching was great, the other students were lovely and from a real variety of backgrounds. I found IH very well organised, always responded to me quickly and offered discounts for early booking, which I made the most of :)
